Second, decide if you want to add texture and interest. A pattern will set the tone and tell the story of your style. Choose a simple pattern or a natural element for a rustic cabin. If you prefer a farmhouse vibe, you can select area rugs with heirloom-inspired prints. For a creative household, we suggest bold designs in both color and theme. The more eye-catching the print of your area rug is, the stronger the visual effect will be.

Size

Lastly, select the correct sizes of floor coverings for your home. The dimensions of your new area rugs are dictated by the size of your rooms and by your furniture placement. A dining or a living room usually requires an 8×11 ft. rectangle or an 8ft round rug. This allows for the furniture to sit on the rug. A 5×8 ft. is often big enough for a bedroom or for a smaller eating area. Runners, or 2×8 ft. rugs, can be used in hallways or in high traffic parts of the home. Area rugs measuring 3×4 ft. and 4×5 ft. are ideal to place as accents throughout the house.
